American Telemedicine Association's Five-Year Strategic Plan

As general manager of Nexcaliber, Cloy David Feachen helps administer self-funded employer medical benefits for businesses in Dallas, Texas. A proponent of telemedicine, Cloy David Feachen is a member of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA).

Telemedicine is a rapidly growing service that, through distance treatment and consultation, reduces travel time as well as patient-related stress and costs. Because of its increased demand among consumers, in 2016, the ATA adopted a five-year strategic plan with three central goals - champion, empower, and mobilize. First, the organization hopes to gain support for telehealth among all stakeholders through data-driven research affirming its effectiveness. Part of that includes advocating for improved public policy legislation at the state and federal levels as well as expanding its reach worldwide.

In terms of empowering, ATA plans to create new educational opportunities in the field of telemedicine through online courses and up-to-date in-class lectures at its conferences. Finally, as part of its mobilization goal, ATA will seek to increase member engagement through strong brand awareness and a creative, efficient work culture. Only 31 states and Washington, D.C., have complete telemedicine parity laws for private insurance, while nine have proposed bills, and 10 have no parity legislative activity whatsoever. ATA is hoping that, by the end of its five-year plan, all 50 states will have full parity laws.
