The Cowboys had the privilege of having the top two offensive rookies in the NFL in 2016, as both running back Ezekiel Elliott and quarterback Dak Prescott were among the best at their position. In a slight surprise, it was Prescott who was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Elliot led the league in rushing yards with 1,631 on 322 carries, but Prescott was just as important to the Cowboys' success.

A fourth round pick out of Mississippi State, Prescott assumed the starting quarterback role after Tony Romo sustained an injury in the preseason. The 23 year old found immediate success as he completed 176 passes without an interception to start his career, breaking the previous record of 162 held by Tom Brady. Over the course of the season, Prescott completed 311 passes for 3,667 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only four interceptions. He also rushed for 282 yards on 57 attempts.
